Black Tea Shortbread Recipe

This weekend it was cold and rainy at our house. To keep us warm, my daughter Rebecca and I put on our TeaPrints hoodies and made our favorite shortbread recipe with the delightful addition of 1 Tbsp. ground tea. Not only did they smell delicious while they were baking but they paired perfectly with a cup of tea. SO full of buttery goodness and melt in your mouth delicious.

Black Tea Shortbread Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 2 Cups Butter, Softened
  • 1 Cup Packed Brown Sugar
  • 4 to 4 1/2 Cups All Purpose Flour (divided)
  • 1 Tbsp. Black Tea Leaves Finely Ground

Directions:

In a large mixing bowl, cream butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy. Add 3 3/4 cups flour and ground tea. Mix well. Turn onto a well floured surface and kneed for 5 minutes. Add enough remaining flour while kneading to form a soft dough.

Roll to 1/2 inch thickness. Cut into 3 inch x 1 inch rectangles. (I use a pizza cutter to make this easy!)  Place on ungreased baking sheet approximately 1 inch apart. Prick with fork. Bake at 325°F for 20 to 25 minutes or until cookies are lightly brown. Makes about 4 dozen shortbread cookies.

If you don't want to add the tea, this recipe is just as delicious without it. But, I suggest you try it with the tea at least once. They are absolute tea cookie deliciousness!

Raising my cup to you,

Rosanne
